This is a report on a Chinese-English translation practice.The source text is selected from Imperial Mausoleums in China,which is the representative work of China's famous archaeologists,Huang Jinglue and Ye Xueming.Currently no English version of this book has been found.This report selects the first two chapters of the book for Chinese-English translation.The source text contains 10,182 Chinese characters.The selected text mainly tells about the history,general characteristics of imperial mausoleums of China and the specific situation of the Yellow Emperor Mausoleum.In this report,the translator first introduces the background,objectives and significance of the translation project,and then the translator analyzes the difficulties encountered in the process of translating and the corresponding translation methods from the lexical and syntactic levels respectively.In the translation process,the translator encountered problems such as numerous proper nouns,culture-loaded words and words with no equivalents in English.Chinese and English have different syntactic and cultural features.At the same time,there are a large number of classics and allusions in the source text,which bring difficulties to the translation process as well.In view of these difficulties,the translator tries to use the following methods.In terms of lexical difficulties,the translation methods of annotation,omission and conversion are used.The translation methods at the syntactic level include division,contracting and change of voices.Mausoleum is an important part of Chinese cultures.On the basis of faithfulness,this report strives to proceed from the perspective of readers.The purpose of this report is to provide a reference for the English translation of the present source text and promote the spread of Chinese cultures throughout the world.
