This is a translation report on chapter 13 to 15 of Mongolian Shamanism. This book mainly introduces the history of Mongolian Shamanism, world concept of Mongolian Shamanism and the religious rituals of Mongolian Shamanism. From chapter 13 to 15,the author explains the Shaman clothing in detail by means of comparison, pictures, tables, examples and so on.For a Mongolian Shaman, the most important items are the Shaman clothing, spiritual armor and paraphernalia. At present, people's understanding of Mongolian shamanism is still limited to some of its religious rituals. It has practical significance to choose this part as the source text to some degree in order to make people consider Mongolian Shamanism with an open mind and have a more comprehensive understanding of Shaman clothing.Through careful translation and analysis of the selected chapters in Mongolian Shamanism, the translator finds that there are many difficulties in the process of translation.Firstly, difficulties at the lexical level mainly contain proper nouns,culture-loaded words and word class.Secondly, difficulties at the syntactic level contain passive sentences and attributive sentences. As for the translation strategies, the translator uses the methods of transliteration and annotation to translate proper nouns;culture-loaded words are translated by using the method of free translation;and the word class is dealt with by using the method of conversion. As for the translation of passive sentences, the translator uses three methods of shifts of voices, which are as follows. The first one is to translate the English passive sentence into Chinese passive sentence directly using the word “?”;the second one is to translate the English passive sentence into Chinese active sentence;the last one is to translate the English passive sentence into Chinese sentence with a “potential” subject. As for the translation of attributive sentences, the translator adopts three methods, which are as follows. The firstone is to translate the attributive clause into its original order. The second one is to translate the attributive clause into a pre-modifier which is placed before the antecedent. The third one is to translate the attributive clause into a coordinate clause which is placed after the main sentence. The main research contents of the thesis focus on the translation strategies that the translator needs in solving these difficulties. At the same time, the translator makes a detailed description on the use of these methods and techniques.By doing so,the translator can obtain some useful translation experiences.A qualified translator could have a comprehensive understanding of the source text before translation and can also use the corresponding translation strategies flexibly to solve the translation difficulties in the process of translation.Only in this way,can a good job be done.Of course, the translator is required to improve his or her cultural literacy of English and Chinese as well as the language skills, which will lay the foundation for a higher level of translation practice in the future.
