The Sui and Tang dynasties were the period of transformation of Chinese society and also the transition period of Confucian culture.During the period of the Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties, wars were frequent, and people were eager to pursue spiritual peace. It was time when Buddhism came into being and the rise of Taoism.Buddhism advocated “returning to nature” and Taoism put forward the “Taoism”.They all established a complete and rigorous system of minds. They had a remarkable effect in pacifying people and thus developed rapidly. The Confucianists were caught in extreme theological teleology, and they were gradually dying because of the lack of argumentation of the moral nature and the response to the needs of the times. In order to rejuvenate Confucianism,a wave of revival of Confucianism was initiated in society. It was under the influence of this ideological trend that Wang Tong raised the banner of the revival of Confucianism.Standing on the pulse of the times,Wang Tong saw the restraints of Confucian development and saw the incompleteness of Confucian ideas of mind.He started with the “Sex and the Heaven”of pre-Qin Confucianism, and tried to respond to the challenges of Buddhism and Taoism to return to the Confucian mind. With this as a starting point,he put forward many innovative insights.First of all,in order to revive Confucianism,Wang Tong has opened up a new direction for scholarship. In the method of scholarship,he proposed the "literature and the intension";in principle of study,he advocated the principle of "Middle Way";in terms of the source of thought,he proposed that "the three religions can be one",and advocated objectively focusing on Confucianism and integrating Buddhism.Road.Second,Wang Tong does not agree with the Confucian tradition of heavenly Taoism. He took "people" as the starting point, reinterpreted the world, valued the status and role of the people, advocated the return of humanity, and laid the foundation for the individual's spiritual cultivation.Thirdly, based on the nature of the pre-Qin Confucianism and heaven,Wang Tong put forward his own theory of mind and self-cultivation.Starting from the relationship between sex and heaven, sex and emotion, through the demonstration of sex and heaven,he draws the conclusions of “sexual goodness and evil” and “taking sexuality into practice”,and proposes to include the exhaustive rationality and honesty, etc. The inner self-cultivation method has initially formed its own frame of mind and mind.In addition,Wang Tong's thoughts of the heart end with Wang Tao's politics.Wang Tong advocates the transformation of the individual into a world through personal spiritual cultivation, and finally realizes the way of the Holy King.In the end,Wang Tong's thoughts of mind are of great significance. His thoughts of mind opened the way for Confucianists to enter and retreat into Buddhism after the Middle Tang Dynasty, returning to the heart of nature, and throwing stones for the transformation of traditional Confucianism to Neo-Confucianism of the Song and Ming Dynasties.
