Grief Counseling:a Case Study On In Adaptation To The Institutional Aged Caring

With the increasing trend of aging population and the weakening of traditional function of family to look after the old people in China,the social nursing system has become a new trend.Especially in the past few years,the number of nursing house augmented in a rapid speed,thus how to help the elderly to solve the problem of adaptation in social caring institution obtains a widespread attention.Bases on the psychological perspective,this study performed a seris of interview with an old women in a nursing house in city of Wuhan City.The result shows that the adaptation problem in nursing house problably due to the sense of loss after the women left her own home.In this case,this paper attempts to use this case study as a representative case,and to try to find out the shared reasons of accommodating difficulty of the elderly in the caring institution,to discover the effectiveness of grief counseling in coping with such problem,to promote the result and to encourage the future research and practice.After 13 psychological counseling interventions,the effect of progress was obvious.Through the analysis of the whole intervention process,along with the literature review,the researcher draw the following conclusions:the adaptation problem of the elderly in nursing house comes from the sense of loss form home,and grief counseling is an effective way of intervene.At the same time,in addition to dealing with the sense of loss when leaving the home to the nursing house,people should also pay attention to their previous actual loss(eg.the husband)and other major negative life events;taking into account the limitation of psychological counseling and the increasing number of aging population in nursing house,psychological counseling could be used as a supplementary method in helping solve with the adaptation issues.
