Along with the development of the Renaissance, the artist's self-portrait has undergone a process from scratch, from the beginning of the religious theme of the hidden in an inconspicuous corner gradually as the central figure and close to the center of the picture, and finally from the religious subjects developed independent self-portrait,which itself is a process of the artist self awakening awareness and social status improvement. This process is embodied in the five artist's self-portrait figures changes in ‘the Adoration of the Magi'.The three magi in the east to Bethlehem to worship Jesus is one of the most popular religious themes in the Renaissance, many famous artists have created the theme of the works, and most of the artists will be placed in the self-portrait.The years of creation are very close of the five artists works.Through image contrast research,we can see that their figures in their paintings are different. Some are just spectators of this religious activity hidden in the crowd of pictures or placed in a remote corner of the picture, while others can take part in the activity instead of the main religious figures. This article attempts to explain the reasons for the change through two aspects of the expression of the work and the social status of the artist at that time.Through this study,we can found that artist's self-portrait is not arbitrary but a portrayal of their realistic social status. It is the result of their hard work. With the development of creation time, the position of the artist's self-portrait in the picture is becoming more and more important, which is enough to show that the five artists are eager to improve their social status.
