The development of agriculture in the Jianghan Plain was based on the accumulated experience of the development of wetland during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. With the entry of immigrants,it reached a peak period in the Ming Dynasty and laid the foundation for the development of wetland in the plain of Hubei and Hunan in the Qing Dynasty. This article starts with the characteristics of the natural environment in the Jianghan Plain, and discusses the changes in the population of the Jianghan Plain in the Ming Dynasty and the embankment construction in the plains,as well as the main roles and developments of the officials and the people in the development of the wetland in the Ming Dynasty. The combing and research of wetland development in the Jianghan Plain in the Ming Dynasty.First of all,the natural and geographical conditions of the Jianghan Plain have determined that seasonal problems of flooding must be solved in order to develop agriculture. The lack of labor is also the reason for the slow development of agriculture in the plains. In terms of population growth and development of wetland, due to the policy guidance of the officials of the early Ming period and the large amount of arable land in the plain areas, conditions were created for the constant entry of immigrants.Second,in order to avoid flooding, the embankment construction in the Jianghan Plain area in the Ming Dynasty was promoted on a large scale. The embankment is a sign of the rise of wetland, and the development of wetland is also based on the construction of embankments.Jianghan Plain is mainly affected by the seasonal flooding of the Yangtze River and Han River. Therefore, the construction of embankments along the river is particularly important. This article takes the construction of embankments in Jingzhou Prefecture and Chengtian Prefecture as an example to introduce the status of embankment construction in the Jianghan Plain in the Ming Dynasty.Thirdly, the main roles of officials and people in the development of wetland in the Ming dynasty were different. The Ming officials provided policy guidance and material support for the construction of water dikes in the plain areas, laying the foundation for the development of wetland. The private households participated in the construction of embankments during the development of wetland, which expanded the living space and cultivated areas of people in the plains. Finally,in terms of the impact of the development of wetland, the inflow of people in the Ming Dynasty plain area has caused the arable land to be continuously reclaimed. The expansion of arable land has increased the total grain output to create conditions for the grain output of the Huguang region in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. However, the development of wetland is an agricultural cultivation method that competes with water, which also has an important impact on local people-land relations. In short, the development of wetland in the Jianghan plain area in the Ming dynasty enabled the reclamation of Jianghan Plain, which was sparsely populated, and promoted the construction of dikes and the development of local agriculture in the Jianghan Plain. It also created conditions for the Huguang region to become an important grain export place in the country during the Ming Dynasty.
