Selected E-C Translation Of The Witch's Market And A Critical Commentary

This translation project consists of two parts.The first part is the English-Chinese translation of the excerpted chapters from the source text The Witch's Market.The second part is the critical commentary of this translation.The translation purpose and significance are introduced in the critical commentary.And,the translation theory,strategy and techniques used in the translation process are also analyzed in the critical commentary.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the strategy of domestication,techniques of shift,addition,division,combination and footnoting are mainly adopted in translating the selected fiction of a Chinese-American.This fiction is a typical Chinese-American literary work with hybrid languages and symbiotic cultures,which create obstacles in the translation process.Therefore,the purpose of this translation is to eliminate these obstacles and make the Chinese translation as fluent and attractive as possible so that more readers can be attracted.And,under the guidance of three rules of Skopos Theory,the application of domestication and the above techniques can eliminate these obstacles.Hence,the Chinese translation can meet the translation standard "adequacy," and,entertainment,the purpose of the Chinese translation can be realized.This translation project not only can improve the translation ability of the translator,but also can be used as reference to the translation of similar Chinese-American fictions.
