This translation project contains two parts, that is,the translation part and the critical commentary. The first part presents the source text and the translated text. The source text is excerpted from the first chapter of The Making of a Digital World by German economist Joachim K.Rennstich.The source text, published by Macmillan Press in 2008,intends to analyze the evolution of technological change and the role of globalization, which has shaped the world and every aspect of our life. The first chapter, the introduction of the whole book, presents Joachim K.Rennstich's own framework for the research of the future development of globalization after the examination of related literature reviews.According to the searching results of CNKI,Baidu,Google and the email contact with Macmillan Press and Joachim K.Rennstich,The Making of a Digital World has never been translated into Chinese. The second part, which is a critical commentary based on the translation, firstly covers the introduction of the project, the source text and the significance of this translation project, then illustrates the theoretical guidelines for the translation, which is followed by detailed case analysis where different translation strategies adopted during the translation are showed, and finally comes to certain conclusions.Under the guideline of Peter Newmark's classification of texts and semantic and communicative translation theory, difficulties at lexical level and syntactic level were analyzed and solved.Upon the completion of the translation project,it's found that Peter Newmark's translation theory is useful. The semantic translation should be combined with communicative translation to strike a good balance between accuracy and readability. What's more, the adoption of various translation strategies is also necessary to achieve that aim effectively. In conclusion,it's sincerely hoped that this translation project could provide a little insight for the comprehension and application of Peter Newmark's translation theories and provide some experience for future translators of this field and be of some help for the understanding of the digital world we live in.
