With China's booming economy,people's standard of living has been greatly improved.After meeting their own needs for food and clothing,people began to buy cosmetics to meet their needs for beauty.The name of the translation I chose was Branded Beauty---How Marketing Changed the Way We Look.This book begins with the history of cosmetics development and tells the history of cosmetics giants.I choose the first and second chapters of the preface to translate.There are many professional words in the text,and the sentence structures are relatively complex,which requires the translator to have a rigorous scientific attitude and exquisite professional knowledge.Newmark's communicative translation and semantic translation is widely used in the practice of translators,which is of guiding significance to the study of marketing translation.Communicative translation attaches great importance to the effect of the translated text on the target readers,while semantic translation emphasizes reproducing the contextual meaning of the original text as accurately as possible.There are differences and similarities between the two translation methods,which cannot be separated completely in practice.This paper analyzes the application of semantic translation and communicative translation theory in Branded Beauty from the aspects of rhetoric,syntax,culture and word.I hope to use this analysis as a reference for other translators.
