This This thesis takes the creative group of Sculptural Ceramics in Central Academy of Fine Arts as the research object.Referring to the reform and development of ceramic instruction of Sculpture Department in Central Academy of Fine Arts,it divides the group into three generations. After establishing the relevant visual form of their works by Wolfflin’s methodology of principles of art history, their artistic styles are concluded: aesthetic and elegant realism, free and retro materialism, and rebellious and rational idealism.Based on these styles, the characteristic of their aesthetic evolution is from practical to aesthetic, from classical to multi-aesthetic,and from the flawless material to the defect texture. On this basis, the thesis tries to deeply think about the reason of the formation of their artistic styles in two aspects which are the internal mechanism of artistic style(the transformation and interchange of artists’ identity, and the awakening of the awareness of material and media)and its external situation(the rise of ceramic education in modern colleges, the introduction of Western art trends and the awakening of native culture, and the influence of Internet age on media art and public art).By discussing the positive significance of the systematization of the creative theory of Sculptural Ceramics, the influence of ceramic producing areas and the ceramic education in colleges, and the return of humanistic spirit and self-confidence in native culture,it establishes the dominant position of academic Sculptural Ceramics on behalf of Central Academy of Fine Arts in the development of Chinese modern ceramics. And it ultimately constructs an individual case of the creative group of Sculptural Ceramics in Central Academy of Fine Arts under Wolfflin’s methodology of principles of art history.
