With the increase of academic exchange and the improvement of education,a large number of domestic theses are published in foreign journals.The requirements for students' and scholars' theses enhance sharply,and the academic translation shall be concise and accurate,the translation accuracy is one of the significant standards in thesis publication.Well-structured and logical abstract helps readers understand the whole thesis.The C-E academic translation is of great significance in the academic exchange,the Chinese culture spreading and the development of all the disciplines.Therefore,much emphasis should be laid on academic works and the quality of translation needs developing.Therefore,this report makes a probe into the metafunctions and their feasibility and applicability in Chinese to English abstract translation combined with case analyses and the Chinese and English writing differences.Insights and references are offered in academic abstract translation.This report is divided into seven parts.The first part is the introduction;the second part is the project description on the source,type of the project,and the requirements of the clients;the third part is the literature review,which mainly introduces the research background and the previous studies on metafunctions and on abstracts.The fourth part is pre-translation preparation and the analysis of the source texts,including original text analysis,parallel text analysis,English abstract writing skills,and the similarities and differences between Chinese and English abstracts;the fifth and sixth parts are the case studies;the seventh part is the conclusion.In conclusion,The author believes the source,target texts,the target readers' expectations and needs are clearly demonstrated through the case analyses.Byresearching the source and target texts,the problems on structure,discourse are solved,and the interpersonal metafunction of texts is better fulfilled.Therefore,the argument that the interpersonal and textual metafunctions have instructive effects on the academic abstract translation is confirmed.
