Discourse markers have always been one of the focuses of academic circles.Among them,the Chinese discourse marker“??”and the Korean discourse marker“(?)”are frequently used in spoken Chinese and Korean.A comparative analysis of meta-functions of the discourse marker“??”and the discourse marker“(?)”can be of help to study the similarities and differences between the two languages in specific contexts.This paper takes the two common discourse markers“??”and“(?)”as the research objects,aiming at using Halliday's theory of system-functional linguistics to make a comprehensive comparative analysis of the Chinese discourse marker“??”and the Korean discourse marker“(?)”from the synchronic plane,study the similarities and differences between them.Here are the five chapters as below:Chapter 1 is introduction,which includes subjects,summary of related research,objects and contents of the study,reviews of existing research.methods of study and source of corpus.Chapter 2 mainly revolves the grammaticalization around the Chinese discourse marker“??”and the Korean discourse marker“??”at the synchronic level,and outlines their grammaticalization process,makes a more detailed description and analysis of the generation process of their discourse marker metafunctions at the synchronic level.Chapter 3 mainly examines Interpersonal metafunctions of the discourse marker“??”and the discourse marker“??”,and makes a comparative analysis of Interpersonal metafunctions of them.Chapter 4 compares the Contextual metafunctions of Chinese and Korean discourse markers“??”and“(?)”,mainly from the Thematic Structures and the Information Structures of them,so as to find out the similarities and differences between them in Textual metafunctions.The last chapter is the conclusion,summarizing the whole thesis.
