This paper is a practice report on English to Chinese consecutive interpretation with no manuscripts. As the consecutive interpreter for an interview of an episode of Foreigners in China from CCTV4,the author analyzes the interpretation of remarks delivered by Rachel Grace Pinniger, the British interviewee, and discusses omissions and misinterpretations in English to Chinese consecutive interpretation as well as strategies and solutions. In this interpretation task, problems of omissions and misinterpretations occurred frequently. In the field interpreting, omissions and misinterpretations would greatly lower the interpretation quality, discourage the audience from trusting the interpreter and undermine the image of the interpreter.According to Daniel Gile's Effort Model(2009),the total attention resources of one interpreter are not limitless in consecutive interpretation. Therefore,if the attention resources are out of balance or beyond what the brain can provide, the interpreter is more likely to make mistakes such as misinterpretations and omissions. In this paper, the author, based on this interpreting practice, has studied the causes which lead to omissions and misinterpretations under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model.Corresponding strategies and solutions are also proposed by the author with the purpose of guiding future interpreting practices.Based on the features of this interpreting task, the author presumes three main factors affecting the interpretation in subjective and objective aspects, including working environment, source language input and note taking. In the chapter of case analysis, the presumptions are proved from the perspective of Effort Model. It is found that noisy working environment, highly dense source language, inactive words and unsystematic note taking are main reasons of omissions and misinterpretations in this interpreting task.In order to reduce omissions and misinterpretations, interpreters are suggested to enhance ability for source language processing,to build up an independent note taking system, and to improve working environment,so as to produce better interpretation.Besides, considering this TV program interview interpretation, the author suggests that interpreters take full advantage of devices on site to minimize the impact of noisy working environment when conducting interpretation of this kind.
