Omissions,a common phenomenon in interpreting, have a direct bearing on communication efficiency. When studying omissions, some scholars deem omissions as unacceptable errors, some manage to justify their existence via the effort model, and some others conclude that omissions can be employed as an interpreting strategy. The thesis studies omissions in the writer's interpretation practicum in an internal training program. In this report, omissions are divided into erroneous omissions and strategic omissions. The thesis manages to develop ways to help interpreters avoid erroneous omissions and better apply omissions as a strategy in an aim to facilitate communication. This thesis employs literature research and case study as two main study methods. The innovation of this report lies in the uniqueness of the case,in which the speaker speaks English in French accent, the brand products are named in other languages than English, the audience are in different English levels, and some training tools, though important, did not work well as expected. The author identifies four causes of erroneous omissions:lack of fragrance and sales knowledge, listening problems, memory problems, and ineffective training tools and conclude that omissions should be employed as a strategy when it comes to widely known, repetitive, irrelevant and meaningless information.
