This practice report analyses how the author prepares,proceeds and reviews her translation of Sacred Teaching Pilgrim within the framework of He Ziran's Pragmatic Equivalent Approach to Translation(???1997).Sacred Teaching Pilgrim is one of the most famous country novels in C hina.Until now,nobody has translated it into English.The author selects two chapters to translate.At the same time,she chooses some typical examples to analyze how source text and target text achieve equivalence effect.Similar to N ida's dynamic equivalence,the theory not o nly requires equivalence in words,vocabularies,grammar,but also asks for equivalence in sociopragmatic.That is to say,the translator should understand in the social and cultural context of the source text.The report consists of five sections.The first section is task introduction.The author introduces the author,background,context and writing purpose.The second one is preparation.The author summarizes some terminologies,and she also introduces translation tools.In this section,she gives some review of the novel and introduces the theory in the report.The third one is translation process.The author selects some typical examples,analyzing all of them within theory and translation strategies.The forth one is assessment.And the last one is conclusion,including major findings and translation problems.The report gives a systematic conclusion of country novel's translation such as direct translation,free translation,footnotes-adding and paraphrase which helps the author to realize her shortcomings and improve her translation skills.The major findings are the followings.First of all,the translator must have a good command of Chinese culture;Then she must read a large amount of theoretical books and papers.Furthermore,she must have a wide range of cross culture knowledge.In addition,she must solicit the professors;comments on her target text.During the translation practice,we have some problems.Some prob lems and oral sentences are difficult to translate,furthermore,the comprehension of the title of novel is from translator.
