With the deepening of curriculum reform,English has become more and more popular in the primary education stage.The People's Republic of China ministry of education made and promulgation of the "English curriculum standard" in the year of 2011.It emphasized that English teaching must include instrumental and humanism in the process of compulsory education.It also puts forward the course basic concept that is abundant curriculum resources and expand the methods of English learning.English picture books teaching in primary school use the picture books which is the carrier of knowledge combine the text and pictures in the form of innocence and funny.It cultivates the students' English literacy from the perspectives of knowledge,skills and emotional attitude.English picture books teaching can meet the demands of elementary school students' personality characteristics.Picture books originated in Europe,then began in Japan in Asia and spread to Hong Kong and Taiwan in China.The usage and practice of English picture books teaching has been slowly expanding in the elementary lessons in the field of school education.Because of it is not widely used,it still has all kinds of problems.Based on this,this paper expounds the necessity of applying English picture book teaching in the course of primary classroom teaching from the aspects of policy advancement,theory enrichment and problems of practice.Firstly,to understand the development of picture books teaching through literature research and expound the theory and practice of the existing research on the teaching of primary school English picture books.It analysis the development of English picture books teaching in primary school with case analysis.Understanding the theoretical research and practice of English picture book teaching in primary schools.Analyzing the function of English picture book teaching in primary schools in China.Contacting to the target school' s teaching cases,analysis the main problems and causes.At last,discusses the optimization of English picture books teaching method in primary school.It puts forward suggestions from three aspects for the teachers in the development of teaching,that is choosing the teaching resources,confirming the teaching goal and establishing the evaluation methods.There are still many problems because of the angles of the research,course cases and ability limited.Such as the uncertain factors in the achievement of the teaching goals,the different teachers,students and their parents impact the process of achievement of the teaching goals,etc.It remains further research.
