F.Scott Fitzgerald is well-known as "the spokesman of the Jazz Age" in 20th-century America."Lipstick:A College Comedy" was originally a tailored screenplay for American actress Constance Talmadge in 1927 by Fitzgerald and finally changed into a short story. This was the first work after he first came to Hollywood. The creation of lively characters with aesthetic values makes this short story attractive. Therefore, this untranslated short story is chosen to be translated into Chinese in the thesis.Aesthetics is indispensable in the development of both eastern and western translation theories. In terms of Translation Aesthetics, translation is an aesthetic process.Scholars like Zhu Guangqian,Qian Zhongshu and Lin Yutang all mentioned the relationship between aesthetics and translation.Liu Miqing made Translation Aesthetics into a systematic theory. For literary works, especially Fitzgerald's works with his unique style,it is essential for translators to understand the aesthetic values of the original text and try to reproduce its beauty in the translation with aesthetic judgement. This translation practice has been carried out under the guidance of Liu Miqing's Translation Aesthetics, and the focus of this thesis is on the aesthetic representation of attractive characters created by Fitzgerald.Based on the theoretical framework of the formal system and the non-formal system, the aesthetic elements are discussed at phonetic, lexical and syntactic levels as well as in terms of imagery, artistic conception and style.Through the main strategy of "choosing the fittest, choosing the best",the translation is able to carry the aesthetic values and emotions in the original text and explore the function of aesthetics in translation so as to provide references for literary translation in general.
