There is subaudition in any language,and Chinese is no exception.However,foreign students often fail to understand Chinese subaudition correctly.Even middle and advanced foreign students have deviations in their understanding of subaudition.Listening is a passive process.Foreign students have to understand Chinese subaudition in listening.Therefore,the teaching of subaudition in listening is important.There are 391 examples of Chinese subaudition in the middle and advanced listening textbooks of ? Developing Chinese?.The ways to convey the subaudition of Chinese include conversational strategies,rhetoric,idioms and fixed meanings.The conversational strategies include describing facts and presenting hypotheses;rhetoric includes metaphor,analogy,euphemism,rhetoric,exaggeration,pun and irony;idioms include idioms,proverbs,idioms and idioms.Fixed meanings include fixed sentences and fixed meanings of words.There is abundant subaudition in the textbooks.It is found that idioms and rhetoric are the two most frequently used ways in the textbooks.These two ways are the focus of teaching subaudition in Chinese as a foreign language.Through listening tests and interviews with foreign students,it is found that foreign students are influenced by subjective and objective factors,and their understanding of subaudition is insufficient.Foreign students' errors are mainly reflected in oral idioms and euphemisms.To better understand Chinese subaudition,foreign students need to consider three aspects: textbooks,teachers' teaching and students themselves.The textbooks should increase the explanations of Chinese subaudition and related exercises;teachers should adopt flexible teaching methods,pay attention to the teaching of context,rhetoric and idioms,and improve students' ability to listen to and identify tones;students themselves should study and accumulate hard,cultivate cross-cultural awareness,and adapt to Chinese culture and mode of thinking.
