Ushinski, the Russian educator, said:“It could enable aninexperienced teacher to be a good teacher with good teaching materialand effective pedagogics. A good teacher would hardly be excellent inteaching without these.” Good teaching materials play a key role inteaching. Listening is so important for people to access information thatlistening materials should be given top priority. The key part of listeningmaterials is the exercise, as a result, if we want to keep the high level oflistening materials, we had better make sure the high quality of exercises.Firstly, this article proposes a theoretical construction of listeningexercises and suggestions of compiling teaching materials upon thecomparing of primary, middle, advanced listening materials and theSecond Language Acquisition Theory. Secondly, this article proposesdifferent theoretical constructions of listening exercises on the foundationof analysis of different types of TCSL teaching materials. Thirdly, thisarticle proposes a theoretical construction of compiling teaching materialsand suggestions of listening exercises about TCFL teaching materialscomparing TCSL and TCFL teaching materials. In the end, this articleattempts to apply several theories to listening exercises for enhancingeffectiveness, Schema Theory, Functional-Notional Syllabus, Task-basedLanguage Teaching, The Role of Culture and so like.
