Reading,as a requisite part of language skills and one of the important ways of language input,plays an important role in English learning.The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017 edition)points out that the English curriculum in senior high school is connected with the curriculum in compulsory education stage,aiming at laying a good foundation for students' continuing learning English and their lifelong development.How to achieve favorable results in English reading teaching in senior high schools is a problem that English teachers are constantly exploring and researching in practical teaching.The traditional teaching method of English reading is teacher-centered,neglecting students' principal position in teaching,ignoring students' interest in English reading and the cultivation of reading habits.In view of these situations,this thesis attempts to apply Jigsaw Model to English reading teaching in senior high schools,aiming at enhancing students' English reading performance and interest in English reading.Guided by cooperative learning theory,social interdependence theory and constructivism,this thesis explores the feasibility and effectiveness of the application of Jigsaw Model to English reading teaching in senior high school.The research questions include: Can the application of Jigsaw Model in teaching senior high school in English reading promote students' reading performance? Can the application of Jigsaw Model in English reading teaching in senior high school improve students' interest in English reading?The author takes 96 students from two English parallel classes in Grade One of Gangu No.4Middle School as subjects.The two classes were randomly arranged to be experimental class and control class.The experimental class adopted Jigsaw Model to teach reading,while PWP model was employed in the control class.This experiment holds up about two months,and takes tests,questionnaires and interviews as research tools.The results of the experiment and the control classes before and after the experiment are weighed and analyzed by SPSS software.Meanwhile,students' interest in English reading in the experimental class is studied by means of questionnaires and interviews.The results represent that Jigsaw Model is a practicable and effective teaching model inEnglish reading teaching in senior high school.Additionally,students' reading performance and interest in English reading can be improved by the application of Jigsaw Model in reading teaching in senior high school.
