Choosing the best title of an essay is a common test type for junior middle school students in their practice,homework,test and examination of reading comprehension.But the students usually get lower score in the type of test due to their deficiency of appropriate mind of question-solving.In order to help students to improve performance over the test,on the basis of existing teaching counseling and schema theory for reading comprehension,the author released three helpful reading guidance materials: Question Guidance Material,“Top-sentence” Diagram Guidance Material,and Layer Guidance Material,instructing students how to read the Three Guidance Materials to improve their test performance in solving questions correctly.In order to evaluate learning effects of the Three Guidance,students of Grade 3 in a junior middle school in rural area of Dalian was selected as experiment objects and in the meantime English essays in three literary styles---narration,expositive writing and argumentative essay were collected as reading materials to undergo three separate experiments so as to evaluate the promotion effect of the Three Guidance over the test performance.Experiment One with narrative writing was used to evaluate the promotion effect in“Choosing the Best Essay Title” after experiment objects accepting the three guidance materials respectively.Experiment Two with expositive writing was used to evaluate the promotion effect in “Choosing the Best Essay Title” after experiment objects accepting the three guidance materials respectively.Experiment Three with argumentative essay was used to evaluate the promotion effect in “Choosing the Best Essay Title” after experiment objects accepting the three guidance materials respectively.The experimental results showed that(1)upon narration writing in the test performance of “Choosing the Best Essay Title” in reading comprehension for the students in Grade 3,all the three guidance materials had significant promotion effect;the promotion effect of Question Guidance was significantly greater than Layer Guidance;Three was no obvious difference in promotion effect between Question Guidance and “Top-sentence” Diagram Guidance;There was also no obvious difference in promotion effect between “Top-Sentence”Diagram Guidance and Layer Guidance.(2)upon expositive writing in the test performance of“Choosing the Best Essay Title”,all the three guidance materials had significant promotioneffect,but there is on obvious difference in the effect.(3)upon argumentative essay in the test performance in “Choosing the Best Essay Title”,both Question Guidance and “Top-sentence”Diagram Guidance had significant promotion effect,while there was no significant difference in the effect;Only layer Guidance had no significant promotion effect in the test performance in “Choosing the Best Essay Title”.The above experimental results had shown except for Layer Guidance which has no significant promotion effect in choosing the best essay title upon argumentative essay,all the Three Guidance had significant promotion effect to some extent in choosing the best essay title in the three forms of literature.
