Reading is one of the most important ways for people to communicate with others and at the same time,obtain information,as a result,cultivating students' reading ability has already been the most important part of the junior school English teaching.Today,autonomous learning as a new approach to learning has been quietly into the junior school English classroom.Compared with the previous traditional teaching methods,autonomous learning in a student-centered teaching practice has already become some kind of breakthrough.Autonomous learning is not only a way of learning,but also a teaching strategy.However,the traditional teacher-centered and grammar-translation way of teaching is still dominant in the teaching of English reading,therefore,most students are passive,reliant,and lack of the ability of English reading.After a long time of thinking,the reason for that is that there was not effective preview before English class.With only forty minutes in class,it is hard for students to obtain the key information.This research is to combine effective preview before English class with the teaching of English reading with the guidance of autonomous learning.This research mainly expounded the following questions:(1)Can preview before English class make students' English reading more efficient and interesting?(2)Can preview before English class make students more active in English class?(3)Can preview before English class help students get higher marks in English and achieve better results in English?(4)Can preview before English class can develop students' autonomous learning abilities not only in English but also in their whole life?The research subjects were the students of Class 3 Grade 7 and Class 5 Grade 7 in a Middle School of Dalian,one class was chosen as the control class,while the other was chosen as the experimental class.The student-centered autonomous learning mode was used in the experimental class,while the traditional teacher-centered grammar translation way of teaching was still in use in the control class.In order to prove the new way of learning had a positive influence on students' English reading achievement,the author used pre-test,post-test,questionnaires and interviews,processed by SPSS.At last,the author drew the following conclusions through the research:(1)Preview before English class can make students' English reading more efficient and interesting.(2)Preview before English class can make students more active in English class.(3)Preview before English class can help students get higher marks in English and achieve better results in English.(4)Preview before Englishclass can develop students' autonomous learning abilities not only in English but also in their whole life.
