Reading is one of the main target skills in English teaching.In terms of the new curriculum standard,the English reading-teaching objectives in junior middle schools include grasping the theme of the article,making predictions for the storyline,understanding the relationships between sentences,application of reading strategies,reading quantity and so on.Teachers should focus on cultivating learners' autonomous reading ability,so that readers have the desire to read,can determine individual reading goals and plans,choose appropriate reading strategies or skills,monitor their own reading thoughts and behaviors,and make self-evaluation of their reading results.However,students' autonomous reading ability remains to be improved.As a way that can promote students' independent learning,it's indispensable to apply the Guided Learning Plan(GLP)method to junior middle school reading teaching practice.This research,in which the tools of test papers,questionnaires and interview outlines are used,is based on the constructivism and humanistic learning theory.Two parallel classes,namely,Class 1(an experimental class)and Class 6(a control class),Grade 8 in No.41 Corp School are selected as the research subjects.In order to verify the influence of GLP on English reading teaching,the routine reading teaching is carried out in the control class and the method of GLP is introduced into the experimental class for nearly one semester.(1)Can the reading teaching of Guided Learning Plan improve students' English reading achievements?(2)Is the use of Guided Learning Plan in English reading class beneficial to cultivating students' autonomous reading ability?SPSS 23.0 is used to deal with the data from this experiment.The results show that GLP in reading class plays an active role in improving students' reading achievements and is conducive to cultivating students' autonomous reading ability.First of all,Guided Learning Plan teaching can improve students' reading achievements.More particularly,in the pre-measurementt,the average reading score of the experimental class(12.1132)is much close to that of the control class(12.0755),and the difference is not obvious.In the post-test,the average score in reading of the experimental class(14.3396)is 1.4528 greater than that of the control class(12.8868),and there is a significant difference(Sig.(2-tailed)=0.008,<0.05).Also for the experimental class,the mean of reading scores in the posttest(14.3396)increases18.3799% than that in the pretest(12.1132).Secondly,Guided Learning Plan is helpful in cultivating students' autonomous reading ability.According to the data from the questionnaire ? in the experimental class,the sum of the mean value of the each dimension in the post-questionnaire(18.0840)is 16.3572% higher than that in the pre-questionnaire(15.5418).The dimension of Goals and Plans rises the most obviously(20.2308%),and the dimension of Motivation has the least mean value growth(14.1741%).The other three dimensions,Strategies and Skills,Process Monitoring and Result Evaluation,also have varying degrees of increase.According to the data from post-questionnaire ? in the experimental class,the guiding learning plan teaching has positive effects on reading motivation stimulation,objectives determination and participation in activities for students.Through the interview in the experimental class,the students unanimously report that,under the guidance of GLP,they could preview in a planned way and explore the key and difficult points in a more in-depth and detailed way,which can reduce the pressure for classroom learning and improve the efficiency of classroom learning.In a word,the effective use of “guided learning plan” teaching can improve students' reading performance,help to cultivate students' autonomous reading ability,and comprehensively improve students' classroom participation and learning enthusiasm.At the same time,teachers should combine with students' learning practice,and constantly optimize and adjust “guided learning plan” teaching,so as to make it play a greater role in English teaching.
