The Sixth Generation Directors Appeared in the 1990 s and Active in Chinese Film Circle,The film paradigm of the fifth generation of directors was overturned when they first appeared on the stage. They replaced the exaggerated freehand brushwork, national fables and local narratives in the images with objective and calm lens language, personal narrative and urban writing. They aimed their lens at the bottom masses and marginal individuals in social life, such as angry rock and roll youth in the city, weak dementia children, confused Pioneer artists, homosexuals who were not accepted by the world and prostitutes who were discriminated against, etc.Their description reproduces the real social state under the cover of the mainstream media. At the same time, this "documentary" image style also endows the image with the attribute of social inscription and historical archives.Through their lens,we can see the Chinese cities in social change. In addition to documentary, the sixth generation directors also pursue a poetic and metaphorical image style, trying to express a certain kind of spiritual depth of reality through the presentation of urban images,in order to touch the humanistic spirit and social significance behind space writing.Starting from the urban space in the sixth generation of director's movies, this paper combines the research results of "spatial turn" in the West, and analyses the value of "documentary" and the significance of cultural representation of space in images. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter analyses the characteristics of urban space in the sixth-generation director's films from the whole point of view. The second chapter elaborates the cultural representation behind the space mainly by the bottom space, heterogeneous space and state-owned enterprises. The third chapter discusses the construction of the main identity in the urban space of the sixth-generation directors' films through the analysis of urban youth and urban unemployed vagrants. The last chapter discusses the construction of the main identity in the urban space of the sixth-generation directors From the perspective of visual threshold, this paper explores the urban female space in the sixth generation of director's movies.
