Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of A PCT Application In The Field Of Medical Monitoring

China has been attaching great importance to the protection of Intellectual Property Rights(IPR),and patents are one of the most effective means to secure these.The source text of this translation is a patent filed by Medtronic Inc.under PCT approach,and it falls into the field of medical monitoring.The author chose this source text due to the rapid development of medical devices in recent years,especially in the fields of disease prevention and monitoring.During the internship in RWS China,the author got to know that Medtronic,Inc.has a vast number of patents in the field of medical monitoring equipment,which are valuable for domestic medical experts.Therefore,the author hopes to provide some reference for the research and development and of medical device in China.This report can be divided into five parts.The first part introduces the background,purpose and significance of this report.The second part describes the source text and target readers.The third part describes major translation process including pre-translation preparation and quality control.The fourth part is the case analysis including adaptation to Chinese patent in translation and translation problems discussion at various linguistic levels,including the discussion on translation of fixed expressions and terminology in patent texts at the lexical level,and analysis of the translation of long and complex sentences and passive sentences in the patent text at the syntactical level.The fifth part arrives at the conclusion as well as a summary of what the author learns through the translation process.Under the guidance of text type,the author interprets some classic problems encountered when translating the source text and gives practical solutions by analyzing the given examples in the part of case analysis.Throughout this process,the author combines practical experience with valuable data resources from her internship company,college and a large patent translation corpus,which greatly improves the accuracy of translation and clarifies the author's translation ideas.The author also hopes to provide some reference for translators and researchers interested in the medical and patent fields,...
