With the enhancement of China's scientific and technological strength,the number of Chinese patent applications is one of the highest in the world.Meanwhile,more and more Chinese patents need to enter the international market,and the demand for patent translation is also increasing.In recent years,the development of machine translation technology has promoted the transformation of translation mode and brought new changes to the development of the language service industry.The source text selected by the author is the complete patent application document Calibration and Optimization Method,Apparatus,and Electronic Device for Machine Translation,aiming to solve the problem of unstable quality of machine translation.The author hopes to deepen the understanding of patent translation through this translation practice.The source text is classified into an informative text with abundant information,strong logic and rigorous language.There are five aspects included in this translation practice report,that is,the background and significance of the report,translation task description,task process description,case analysis,and conclusion.Firstly,the author determines the text type according to the text typology theory.Secondly,the author analyzes the translation text from the lexical level,the syntactic level and the discoursal level.At the lexical level,the author adopts literal translation as a primary translation method to ensure the accuracy of terminology translation.At the syntactic level,the author adopts some translation methods,such as combination translation,reorganization and active-passive conversion,to ensure that the sentence structure is clear and conforms to the expression of the target language.At the discoursal level,the author adopts cohesive devices and thematic progression patterns to ensure the coherence of the text.Through this translation practice and the writing of the relevant translation practice report,the author further understands stylistic features and language styles of a patent text and improves translation ability to a certain extent.Given the author's limited practice in patent translation,the translation will inevitably have some deficiencies.The author hopes that the translation practice report can provide references for scholars who study the translation of patent texts and patent translation amateurs to some extent.
