The source text of the translation comes from the first chapter of The Invention of Sustainability:Nature and Destiny C.1500-1870 written by Paul Ward,an English writer. The book focuses on the issue of sustainable development and offers a history of ideas that ranges widely over political economy, the state and the environment. The book enjoys a perfect guidance to researches of sustainability. The report selects the first chapter which introduces the development gained under the guidance of sustainable development in terms of food, tillage, husbandry, forestry and fertilizer.Based on the three-dimensional transformation proposed by Hu Gengshen, this report discusses the difficulties in translating and their corresponding solutions.During the translation process, the translator adopts addition and conversion for linguistic-dimensional transformation;free translation and annotations within text are used for cultural-dimensional transformation;division and restructuring are adopted for communicative-dimensional transformation. The translator tries to break the restriction of the source text and focuses on the accuracy of information so as to make the translation smooth and faithful. At last,a conclusion is made about the experiences gained and the problems to be solved during translating.
