The cultural heritage of Western design and crafts has undergone major changes since the first industrial revolution, and jewelry compacts epitomize European trend and present the abundance of material culture at that time.Vanities: The Golden Age of Nécessaires and Minaudières shows the unique development and changes of modern western decorative design art and social aesthetic taste. The eco-translatology school advocates exploring translation from an ecological perspective, regarding translation as a translator’s adaption and selection activity in a translational eco-environment.Adaptive selection of translation strategies should be made mainly through transformation of linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension so as to realize “a translation with the highest degree of holistic adaption and selection”(Hu Gengshen,2003:283).Based on the“Three Dimensional Transformations”,this paper is to explore word choice, conversion, irony and restructuring regarding linguistic dimension;as for cultural dimension,it mainly discusses the translation of words with specific social and historical background, and when it comes to communicative dimension,it mainly discusses those strategies aimed at communicative purposes,e.g.amplification and omission.Through the exploration of the adaption and selection of translation strategies in artistic texts, this paper provides insights for further researches. An in-depth illustration of the characteristics of western crafts is delivered to provide references for contemporary women and Chinese arts, which is of great practical significance.
