This report analyzes the specific cases selected from the translation of a historical Thai document entitled "Thai-China Relations",interprets the role of translator's subjectivity in the translation of historical materials and puts forward corresponding solutions for translators on how to better understand the source text,how to deal with the inadequate grasp of linguistic style due to different times and background,and how to choose translation strategies based on cultural differences.These methods mainly include:for the understanding of the original text,the translator have to use their subjective initiative,mobilize all relevant factors according to the translator's own knowledge,consult a large number of documents,so as to improve the understanding of the original text;In the grasp of linguistic style,translators must pay attention to the stylistic features of historical texts and the historical background of the original text.Their language expression must be rigorous and concise,and their wording must be as close as possible to the background of the times;In the choice of translation strategy,the translator have to utilize various methods and give full play to their subjectivity while keeping the translation faithful with the original text.The Specific translation strategies are as follows:using transliteration(plus free translation if needed),corresponding translation plus notation at the lexical level;Adopting addition,omission,maintaining sentence pattern of the original text,compensating the missing information through adjusting the word order at the textual level,so as to make the translation accurate and expressive and consistent with the original language style.At last,a summary is made regarding the translation process and methods,and the author analyzes the translator's qualities.
