The Remains of the Day was one of Kazuo Ishiguro's representatives.He was the winner of the Noble Prize in Literature in 2017.This novel embodied Kazuo Ishiguro's writing skill and writing style.Its plain and rigorous language distinguished it from other works.The two Chinese versions of The Remains of the Day were completed by Mao Guoan and Feng Tao.Mao Guoan's translation was first published in 2008 and revised twice in 2011 and 2014 separately.Feng Tao's translation came out in 2018,after Kazuo Ishiguro's winning of the Noble Prize.Traditionally,translation study attached extreme importance to the original and its author.The standard of qualified or unqualified translation depended on whether translators were loyal to the author and the original.?Culture Turn? made translators saw bright prospect in the development of translation study.Translator's subjectivity has been paid much attention since then,shifting the focus of translation study to translators.Since translators' status has been elevated,they can exert influence in translating.Factors,like translators‘ translation strategy,translation style,time background and cultural background,make a difference to their translating activities.In the two Chinese versions,translators adopted different translation strategies.Mao Guoan adopted domestication while Feng Tao adopted foreignization.Both internal and external factors are probed in order to figure out what influenced the translators‘ selection of translation strategies.The author finds that time background and translation style affected the two translators greatly.
