With the continuous improvement of China's comprehensive national strength and international influence,more and more international attention has been paid to Chinese documentaries,China has also been more active in promoting the international communication of documentaries.However,international audiences have relatively limited knowledge of China,some international media misread and distort China's image,even advocating;"China Threat Theory"to discredit China's image maliciously.China needs to improve its international communication capability.Since its birth,Chinese and foreign co-producted documentary has played an important role in international communication and dissemination.At this stage,sino-foreign joint production has become an important way for Chinese documentaries to enhance the international communication effect.This study synthesizes the related theories of narratology and international communication,using case analysis,text analysis,comparative study and other methods,on the basis of reviewing the historical development of Chinese and foreign co-producted documentaries,taking"China:Time of Xi"as a typical case,to analyse the international communication strategies of Chinese and foreign co-producted documentaries.This paper puts forward strategic suggestions for the international communication of Chinese and foreign co-producted documentaries,from the aspects of content,channel,audience,industry and national image.To a certain extent,this study fills in the gaps of existing research and provides reference for documentary practice.This study is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction part,mainly introducing the research background and significance,research problems and methods,research framework and so on.At the same time,this study sorted out the relevant literature,analyzing the concepts involved in the research,and summarizing the relevant theories and existing researches.The second chapter is the part of history review.The author divides the development process of Chinese and foreign co-producted documentaries into three stages:the initial stage,the development stage and the initial prosperity stage,and analyses its stage characteristics and representative works.In the third chapter,the author analyses the content and strategy of international communication of"China:Time of Xi",combining narratology and international communication theory,comprehensively using three analytical tools:descriptive tool,quotative tool and informative tool,to analyse the content strategy of the case from five aspects of topic:selection,narrative,image,voice and editing.In order to make the research more pertinent,the author chooses"Amazing China"as an assisted case,making a comparative study with the part of"China:Time of Xi",to analyse the different focuses of documentaries with similar subjects in international communication and internal communication.In the fourth chapter,the author summarizes the above research,and draw lessons from other films and TV works with excellent international communication effect,this paper puts forward the international communication strategy of Chinese and foreign co-producted documentaries,from the content,channel,industry,audience,national image and other aspects,providing a reference for the creation and communication of documentaries co-produced by China and foreign countries in the future.
