The translation project report is the first chapter of Transit Life: How Commuting Is Transforming Our Cities written by David Bissell.Starting from the experience at a wharf, the author introduced time and ways to cultivate commuting skills. The aim of the project is to provide help to those who have difficulties in commuting. In addition, the translator listed many examples for the purpose of providing reference to the translation of such text.According to the Text Typology Theory from Peter Newmark, the source text is an informative text. The project listed three main difficulties: attributive or adverbial modifiers in long sentence, dialogues with parallel components and mixed tenses in one sentence.Under the guiding principle of Translation Shift Theory of Catford, the translator finished the project by analyzing source text, collecting materials and adopting appropriate translation skills. The thesis is made up of five chapters. The first chapter is a general introduction to the project and structure of the report. The second chapter is analysis on source text and introduction to the author. The third chapter presents theoretical basis and its application. The fourth chapter introduces three difficulties and solutions. And the fifth chapter makes a conclusion on the project and puts forward remaining problems.
