A Report Of The Translation Practice Of CBO:Options For Changing The Retirement System For Federal Civilian Workers

This English-Chinese translation practice report is based on the CBO(Congressional Budget Office)published in August 2017 on the budget analysis of the federal government civil servant retirement system.This report is based on the text,analyzes the problems made by the author in translation,lists some translation cases and problem solving strategies.This report introduces the background information of the source text and briefly describes the translation task,which determines translator's obligations and responsibilities.The translation preparation includes text feature analysis,translation theories,text background and vocabulary,and parallel text analysis.The translation process was pre-planned,which laid a solid foundation for the smooth translation.The case analysis covers the cases from the words to sentences,which deeply analyzes the complex sentences of the retirement budget texts.This report also deeply explains some other translation problems summarizes the problems and proposes corresponding solutions during the translation process.In order to complete the translation practice properly,the report is based on the theory of"transaction",the theory of "equivalent" and the theory of "semantic translation" as the theory guidance of translation.Methods such as division,reorganization,and ordering provide method guidance for translation.Through this translation practice,the author has enriched the experience,improve the language ability and provided valuable experience for future translation work.
