A Practical Translation Report On The Budget Outlook 2015-2025

With the development of understanding translation activities and the increasing amounts of non-literary text in the ordinary course of translation, people realize that the non-literary translation is more common than literary translation. This thesis is a practical report on the translation of a non-literary text. The source text is the budget outlook 2015-2025 which publicized on the CBO website. Translation of the source text could enhance the ability of translation between English and Chinese as well as help people understand the outlook from Congressional Budget Office. The translated text could help people in China know the tendency of economy and revenue of the United States might develop.The source text introduces the possible change of the outlays of the budget, tax, and Medicare from 2015 to 2025. The translation is used by YuTang translation company to give the ordinary people a favor to the possible US economic changes and taxation changes.This thesis concludes four chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction of this translation project, including the introduction of the website of the CBO, client and its demand, and the characteristics of the source text. The second chapter is the introduction of the translation process. It consists of pre-translation preparation and translation process, stuff arrangement, emergency treatment and review. The preparation before the translation includes the preparation of the parallel texts, expertise knowledge, terminology, and translation theory. It introduced translation process, stuff arrangements, emergency treatment and review. The third chapter is analysis of the problems in the process of the translation. At the lexical level, the analysis is mainly on the translation of terminology, and the choice of a multi-meaning word. At the syntax level, the analysis focus on the problems in the translation of adverbial clauses, attributive clauses, and the passive sentences. And the analysis on the paragraph is mainly on the coherence and logic. The fourth chapter is a conclusion. The writer concludes the practice of the translation and reviews the whole translation.
