Research On Visual Communication Design Of Online Game Characters

With the rapid development of game industry,Online games have already became a spotlight around academic circles.It is necessary to investigate its communication content,form and effect from the perspective of visual communication.Character is the dominant visual communication carrier in online games Understanding and solving the problems in character design will be helpful to improve the visual communication effect of online games and create better commercial and cultural values.Based on this,this paper chooses two typical nline games,Arena of Valor and League of Ledgends,which have rich character images and a large number of players.From the perspective of comparative study,this paper explores the laws and differences between them in visual communication design of characters,in order to provide some inspiration for local game developers.Through literature review,this paper divides the character image into two parts:the application of design elements and the composition of theme.The design elements include the appearance,color and picture composition of the characters,and the theme includes exterior,personality,identity and atmosphere.Using content ana lysis method,the research is carried out from three perspectives of character design,gender and cross-culture.The main findings of this study are as follows:1.Character image design follows the rule of contrasting the use of color and emphasizing the dynamic effect of the picture,which saturates and commercializes the application of visual elements and emphasizes visual stimulation;2.Character theme shaping in online games has the characteristics of intuition and shallowness,lacking in-depth depiction,designers should give full play to the expressive force of composition design methods;3.The depiction of women's image by online games has not broken through the traditional aesthetic framework,and still exerts soft symbolic violence on them,future design requires diversified shaping and expression;4.Stylistic design is the key to increase the vitality of characters,local designers need to make good use of national elements to form their own design style.
