This thesis focuses on the fictional drama film,Artificial Intelligence, trying to analyze how the subjectivity of robot David is constructed by ideology, the other, performativity and he himself. The film depicts a young android named David who is the first of his kind to express and feel human emotion and how he tries to be a real human kid for being loved by his human mother. The main body of this thesis contains three chapters. The first chapter intends to argue what the ideology expects the robot to present and how daily performativity makes the robot to believe his role required by human and what he should be doing. The second chapter will discuss what the other, those who close to and around the robot, including his creator, his human parents and brother, and other robots he met in his journey in human world and what they do to make their expectations of David come true and how his subjectivity gets constructed by these others. The third chapter will discuss how David try to define himself with his own experience in human world and try to let his own thoughts be heard and thus to play a more positive role in the process of the construction of his subjectivity. From the above analysis, the thesis will conclude that the robot's subjectivity is mainly constructed by ideology, the other, performativity and his construction of his experience subjectivity, thinking subjectivity and speaking subjectivity, among which the external factors such as ideology, otherness and performativity outweigh the inner factors.
