A Corpus-Based Study On The Examples Of Culture-Specific Words In C-E Dictionaries

With the rapid development of China's economy,the export of Chinese culture has received more attention.Confucian words are the essence of Confucian classic culture and are of great significance for promoting China's excellent traditional culture.The dissemination of Confucian words is conducive to building China's international image and enhancing the soft power of Chinese culture.Based on the construal theory and eco-translatology theory,this thesis tries to analyze the present situation,explore the deficiencies and optimize the allocation and translation of examples in C-E dictionaries with relevant theories.This thesis combines quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis and it focuses on the allocation and translation situation of Confucian words in five mainstream C-E dictionaries.The allocation and translation characteristics of the examples are systematically investigated through corpus retrieval and data analysis.The results of the survey show that the mainstream C-E dictionaries don't attach enough importance to the allocation and translation of examples,and there is an urgent need for the improvement in both allocation and translation.Specifically,from the perspective of language,culture and communication,the completeness and conciseness of example allocation need to be improved and there is room for improvement in example translation because the linguistic and cultural inadequacy may be an obstacle on the way of communication.Finally,based on the current situation of the allocation and translation of examples,this thesis integrates the construal theory and the ecotranslatology theory to construct a new model of the allocation and translation of the examples of Confucian words in C-E dictionaries,with a view to improving the allocation and translation situation of Confucian words in C-E dictionaries.The new model is conducive to improving the allocation and translation situation of Confucian examples in C-E dictionaries,thus improving the quality of bilingual dictionary compilation.It plays a positive role in deepening the study of lexicography,disseminating Chinese Confucianism,promoting the dissemination of Chinese culture and enhancing cultural self-confidence.
