| This translation report selected the first three chapters of Food in Film as source text.As Food in Film explores both the material and symbolic representations of food and dining scenes in selected films to demonstrate food’s role in constructing meaning and in altering the complex nature of the social relations.Hence,Under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology and communicative translation,the Chinese translation of Chapter 1-3 of the book is supposed to help readers and moviegoers understand the cultural information hidden in the food symbols in the films.The report is composed of five chapters.Chapter one is a brief introduction of the translation task,including the project background,main content,text type,and research significance.Chapter Two introduces the process of the translation project,including pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.Chapter three introduces Newmark’s translation theory of text typology,semantic translation and communicative translation.Chapter four specifically analyzes how the author uses relevant translation methods and techniques to solve the difficulties.Chapter five is the conclusion,which summarizes the gains and shortcomings of the author in the translated text,and the future efforts directions.The translator believes that the book Food in Film belongs to informational text which focuses on the transmission effect of text information.So,the translation should be faithful to the original text,and avoid obscurity to adapt to the reading habits of the target audience.Therefore,the translation of this book pays more attention to the readers and the future moviegoers so that the target audience can fully understand the views and culture in the original text.The translator hopes that this translation report can provide some references for the translation of such texts. |
