The source text “Trends in Food Packaging Technology” and “Emerging Technology-Based Drying: Food and Feed Products” is two theses excerpted from the first two chapters of the book Food Process Engineering: Emerging Trends in Research and Their Application,which was published by Apple Academic Press Inc.(AAP)in the United States in 2017.And the book has not been translated since its publication.With the aim to offer some reference for Chinese graduates and postgraduates majoring in the food-related field,the author selects it as the translation material.Based on Peter Newmark's classification on texts,the author finds the source text is informative text.Therefore,communicative translation put forward by Newmark is mainly employed to guide the translation project in order that a smooth,clear and idiomatic target text is rendered for target readers.The source text is characterized by plenty of technical and semi-technical words from the lexical level and many passive sentences and attributive sentences from the syntactic level.And it is objective,coherent and cohesive from the textual level.According to these features,this report discusses how the author completes the translation project under the guidance of communicative translation with corresponding examples from the three levels,respectively.It is expected that some reference could be offered for translation project in food process engineering in the future.
