Food safety relates to the physical and mental health of human beings,economic development,social stability.Under the background of the "Healthy China",food safety project has been one of the top ten safety issues for five consecutive years;people have increasingly higher demands on the quality of green food;therefore,it has become a focus of government work to improve the food safety mechanism and raise the food safety supervision.The thesis is a report on the translation of the excerpts from Food Safety for the 21st Century:Managing HACCP and Food Safety throughout the Global Supply.It mainly introduces HACCP system,making sure the safety of every process involved food production to consumption.The author chooses Chapter 7 and 8 as the source text of this translation practice project;these chapters are an introduction on how to design a safe food process and an overview of a world-class food safety programme.The thesis is divided into two parts,the previous section mainly describes the whole translation process,analyzes and solves problems in actual cases;and the latter part is the source text of more than 12,000 words in contrast with the translation text.The thesis deals with the translation problems encountered during the translation processs under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation,firstly the translation of terminologies and common words is solved by means of literal translation,conversion and meaning extension;secondly,on the sentence level adopts logic combining,integration,combination and reproduction to deal with the translation of long sentences;thirdly,is the cohesive devices from the three aspects of reversion,connection and omission on the passage level.The last chapter is the summary of the experience from the whole translating practice,including the deficiencies and gains.The accomplishment of the translation task will provide reference information for scholars,institutions and enterprises in the field of food safety to help them to sum up more experience in China,to improve the existing HACCP system and food safety plan,also the hygiene control ability of food safety.
