A Report On A Handbook For Translator Trainers(Excerpt) Based On Toury's Translational Norms

The translation report selects the introduction and the first two chapters of A Handbook for Translator Trainers as the translation and research objects.The source text briefly describes translation training's evolution,summarizes the recent major literature on it,and then focuses on how to achieve training results by considering curriculum design and planning as well as vocational,disciplinary and training institutional settings.Based on Toury's translational norms theory and guided by preliminary norms,initial norms and operational norms,the author classifies and analyses the methods adopted in the process of translation from the aspects of vocabulary,syntax,semantics and voice.Through a large number of concrete examples,the author demonstrates how to apply translation techniques such as omission,annotation,voice shifting,and division of the long sentences to concrete practice under the guidance of translational norms.The report is divided into five parts: The first part briefly introduces the original text and the background of the project.The second part explains the process of translation.The third part summarizes Toury's translational norms theory.The fourth part explains the application of various translation methods and techniques under the guidance of translational norms theory.Finally,it summarizes the gains and losses and research limitations of the report.The research and translation of the report is intended to provide an operational translation method for information texts such as training manuals.At the same time,it provides useful tools and reference materials for translation teaching and training,so as to improve the quality and efficiency of translation training.
