| This is an E-C translation report written under the guidance of the Communicative Translation Theory.The translation material of this report is exerted from Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 of A Handbook for Translator Trainers,written by Professor Dorothy Kelly.The book is an informative text with a large number of long sentences,the participle structures,and terminologies.This report takes informational text as the research object,and focuses on the long sentences,difficult sentences and participle structures in the handbook.Through the analysis of translation examples in translation materials,the author explores the effect of communicative translation in translating handbook.And it shows that the handbook is a typically informative text,aiming at conveying the original information objectively.Nevertheless,due to the differences in the word formation and structure between Chinese and English,it is necessary to choose domesticated translation strategy,adopting translation techniques like addition,omission,reconstruction,and voice shifting.All these efforts are to conform to the Chinese expression and make it readable to the target reader,so as to achieve the purpose of communication.The main body of this report consists of five parts.Chapter One introduces the author of the source text,the main content,the features of the source text,and the difficulties in translating.In the Chapter Two,it is clarified the process of translating from the aspects of before-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The Chapter Three is about the Communicative Translation Theory and the translation strategy.And Chapter Four focuses on translation examples under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory.It analyzes the representative cases in the translation material from two aspects: translation strategy and translation techniques.The last part is the conclusion of this report.This paper aims to provide reference for the translation of informative texts like the handbook by analyzing the cases in the translation practice. |
