The report is excerpted from A Handbook for Translator Trainers by Dorothy Kelly.Chapter three and chapter four are translated into Chinese by the translator,the author of the report too.The author analyzes the source text characteristics and defines it as an informative text.Terminologies,long and complicated sentences and passive are the most difficult points in the source text.Analyzing the text style and features,the author conducts the translation report under the guidance of Skopos Theory from Vermeer.The translation report shows that the important factors in Skopos Theory is communicative purpose and function.Translation activity is conducted by the communicative purpose and function of the translated text.The author should obey the rules of Skopos Theory,such as Skopos Rule,Coherence Rule and Fidelity Rule.Under the guidance of the three rules based on the Skopos theory,the author adopts translation techniques like omission,amplification and conversion at the lexical level;At the syntactic level,splitting,conversion of passive and active voice,reconstruction are adopted to finish the translation based on the Skopos rule,fidelity rule and coherent rule.Hence.Skopos Theory plays an important guiding role in E-C translation text.The translation report applies the three rules to the translation practice in the source text under the guidance of Skopos Theory and summarizes that the Skopos Theory plays the guide role in the process of translation.The communicative purpose of the informative text is also satisfied by translating A Handbook for Translator Trainers.The translated text provides translation methods to relevant translators or similar texts for reference. |
