The national image of a country is an important manifestation of its comprehensive national strength and international status,which is related to its national interests and national honor.Since the founding of New China,especially since the reform and opening up,China s economy has developed rapidly and its international status has been greatly improved.However,there are still many problems in the process of shaping and disseminating China's national image.The"China Threat" advocated by western countries still dominates the direction of international public opinion.How to break the western public opinion and create an objective and real image of China has been paid more and more attention by scholars from all walks of life.Among them,the international communication of Chinese,as the most acceptable and effective way of communication,has attracted more and more attention from all walks of life.Therefore,on the basis of referring to the previous generations and scholars,we tries to start with the teaching materials of Chinese as a foreign language,and inspect the image of China embodied in them.In order to provide better suggestions for the compilation of teaching materials for Chinese as a foreign language,we chooses a classic English textbook as the reference of teaching materials for Chinese as a foreign language,expecting to provide more targeted suggestions for the compilation of teaching materials for Chinese as a foreign language through comparative analysis.In this thesis,we chooses Boya Chinese(Boya Chinese,Intermediate Acceleration Chapter)and New Concept English(New Concept English,Volume 3)as the research objects.Based on the framework theory and evaluation theory,the author uses text analysis method to analyze the dimension and language of national image embodied in texts of textbooks.This paper makes a comparative study of the attitudes and tendencies of the national image embodied in the text.The results show that New Concept English has a wider choice of national image dimension than Boya Chinese,and the proportion of negative attitudes towards national image dimension in Boya Chinese texts is more than that in New Concept English.This paper also conducts a survey of learners.On the one hand,through questionnaires,we can understand the situation of foreign students'understanding of China s national image.On the other hand,we conduct a questionnaire survey and interviews with foreign students who have systematically studied "Boya Chinese Intermediate Sprint" to understand the impact of textbook content on their understanding of China s national image.Finally,some suggestions are put forward for the compilation of the current textbooks of Chinese as a foreign language,hoping that the textbooks can show the national image of China more comprehensively and pertinently in the compilation process.
