In light of the targeting, practicality, interestingness and cultural fusion, thisthesis, on the basis of previous researches, formulated a questionnaire to investigate100international students from Xinjiang Normal University and Xinjiang Universityon their evaluation of the textbook Boya Chinese, and100learners of English fromNew Orient branch schools in Urumqi on their evaluation of the textbook NewConcept English.5teachers of Chinese and5teachers of English were alsointerviewed.This comparative analysis found that New Concept English, jointly compiled byboth British and Chinese scholars, is more pertinent to learners and is proportionate indifficulty to varying level of proficiency in an orderly, gradual fashion. The chosentexts are suitable for recitation. New Concept English outperforms Boya in usingillustrations and choosing appropriate language and topics. New Concept English isbetter to enable students to have a full understanding of the texts as English culturalconnotations are well integrating with them.This study proposed corresponding advices and methods in textbook compilationin the hope that they can improving the compilation of Boya Chinese and thatmaterial writers and first-line teachers can contribute to the writing and reforming ofteaching materials.
