Subjective Expression In Illustration Design

In this article,by investigating literatures and sample a survey,we discuss the subjective expression in illustration design.Moreover,based on Marx's One Hundred Years of Solitude,we create a series of illustration featured with subjective expressions.One Hundred Years of Solitude is a book of Magic realism literature.The story happens in Town of Macondo by the Caribbean Sea in 1800s,which is based on the author Marx's hometown–Colombia.In this book,Marx tells the story of rise and down and final destruction of the family of Buendia,which is a miniature for Latin America in the 19^th century.We first do a thorough survey on illustrations related to the book both home and aboard,including expressionist style by Dr.Yang Shuhui,romantic style by illustrationist Li Yun,decoration style by artist Luisa River in the 50^th anniversary edition of the book.In illustration design,not only the aesthetic value,but also the real needs of readers should be considered.For non-art-professionals,whom are also the most of our readers,the images that occurs to them is based on reality.By using a realistic approach,we could meet their needs and show them what they have imagined about the story.Based on the result of our survey,we decide to use a realistic style.We continue to do a survey on the history of illustration.By looking through the development of illustration,we analyze the application of subjective expression in illustration.With understanding of“without connection between each other,there will be no strength of people,and we cannot resist invasion and temptation,thus our destiny will be inevitable”,we do an in-depth discussion of“solitude”,based on which,we create the illustrations.In the last,we demonstrate how to apply subjective expression in colors,compositions and other techniques via a slice of our illustrations.
