The source text of this translation practice contains the introduction, chapter 8 and chapter 15 of the book Everyday I Fight,an autobiographic text written by Stuart Scoot, the renowned American anchor on ESPN.The selected text, with about 13,000 words, mainly tells about the author's courage in dealing with cancer and his deep love for his daughter. Its language is plain and colloquial, with only a few long and complex sentences. However, how to translate the large number of names of sport celebrities, sports terminologies and how to keep the language style of the source text are the major difficulties in this translation practice. This report is mainly guided by the most important part of Peter Newmark's translation theory, semantic translation and communicative translation, and explores the translation methods and strategies used in translating autobiographic texts. The report consists of five chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the background, purpose, and significance of the task, features and relevant studies of biographic text and the framework of the entire report. The second chapter is a description of translation process. The third chapter introduces the major concepts of Newmark's translation theory, semantic translation and communicative translation, and clarifies the differences and connections between them, providing a theoretical basis for the translation report. The fourth part is the core of this report.Based on an analysis of the biographic text's characteristics of authenticity and literariness,it reveals through case analyses the feasibility and validity of applying semantic translation and communicative translation theory for biographic text translation. The fifth part is a summary of the translation report, including some limitations of this translation practice and some suggestions for the translation of biographic literature. The author hopes the analysis and summary of this translation practice report will be inspiring and helpful to biographic translation in the future.
