The new curriculum emphasizes the development of every individual learner,the key to cultivate innovative spirit and practical ability,so that students could have the spirit of unity,and cooperation and the world-oriented mind.Therefore,how to make the students' assignments fully reflect the spirit of curriculum reform is a new topic for our teachers.The author of this thesis intends to study the effects of English homework design on tlie learni1ng behavior of slow learners.This experimental study intends to use both quantitative and qualitative methodThis paper starts with the research background,which includes a detailed description of the present research situation and the researches on the status of the slow learners at home and abroad.With its base theories Maslovw's Hierarchy of Needs and Zone of Proximal Development,this paper discusses the implementation of homework design and evaluation for slow learners.A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the needs of English homework on slow learners.Based on the analysis of the amount of homework,the difficulty of homework,the content of homework and the evaluation of homework,the author summed up the principles of homework design suitable for students with special needs.On the basis of these principles.the author employed the integrated research methods of a teaching experiment,two questionnaires and post-research interviews.In order to investigate the needs of English honework on slow learners.180 questionnaires about the needs of English homework were sent out before the experiment to understand the slow learners' needs of English homework.The experimental subiects of this sludv are 30 slow students in Class 5,Grade 1,and 30 slow learners in Class 6,Grade 1,This research aims to find out(1)what are the needs of slow learners in doing their homework?(2)what are the changes in the learning bebavior and learning aclhievement of slow learners after the cxpcriment?(3)whal are the attitudes of slow learners to the design of nccds-bascu homework?Major finding are listed below:1.The study found that slow learners had difficulties in finishing their homework,such as the type and content,the motivation.the difficulty level,but the poor mastery is the main reason and most students complete homework just for improving scores.2.After one semester's experiment of homework design,the slow learners in experimental group have significantly improved in learning behavior and English achievement,especially in the pre-class preparation,students can answer questions actively and ask questions,which is in sharp contrast with the control group.But on the aspect of homework completion,there is no general significant improvement.The independence and enthusiasm of homework completion have improved to some extent.However,the habit of reviewing,homework and checking after class has not been formed,and review the knowledge what they learned that day after class has not been effectively reviewed.But,students' awareness of communicating with teachers and classmates about the difficulties has been improved.According to the study,it puts forward some suggestions on the homework design of slow learners and related teaching practice,hoping to help the majority of English teaching.
