English homework is an important part of junior middle school English teaching.It is not only a natural extension and complement of classroom learning,but also an important means to consolidate knowledge and form English ability.Whether the homework setting is reasonable or not affects the development of students directly.Howard Gardner,a famous American psychologist,put forward MI(Multiple Intelligences)theory which gives respect to students' individual differences and concerns about their comprehensive development which is based on what they are interested in and what they can do well.With the help of MI theory,this thesis focuses on paying attention to every student from different perspectives and levels,developing students' intelligences and inducing their potential as well.Based on MI theory and theories on homework,this thesis digs out the problems in the homework design in middle school and the hidden reasons by means of the questionnaire,student interviews,text analysis and other research methods.The study tests students' intelligence distribution by MI Test,explores the design and application of junior middle school English homework based on MI theory and analyzes the relevant homework texts of students as well.Finally,the thesis uses the data analysis of the questionnaire survey based on MI Test to prove the effectiveness of the study.The results of the study indicate that teachers should change the old ideas on homework because it cannot be the only way to test students' English ability.Instead,we should think carefully,design skillfully,integrate the content of inquiry,emphasize the cooperation and practice of the process and pay attention to the differences of students' personalities,the innovation and interest of forms,to get closer to students' life and social reality.Applying MI to the homework design in junior middle school can make the boring English homework more flexible and arouse students' interest in studying English.It can also broaden students' English learning resources,reduce the burden of learning effectively and improve their ability to use English in practice.
