The Translation Practice Report On Chinese-English Translation (Excerpts) Of Mianzhou Folk Tales

Folk tales show the extension of Chinese culture.Mianzhou folk tales in Chinese tell us such important culture,which its translation can spread the publicity of Chinese worldwide.This translation practice report is based on the Chinese-English translation of Mianzhou Folk Tales.The source text introduces the history and legends of Mianzhou area.The main purpose of this is to convey the cultural exchange via applying the theory into practice.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory,this report discussed the theoretical application at the linguistic levels,namely,lexical,syntactical and textual hierarchy.The lexical level mainly deals with the culture-loaded words,proper nouns including people’s names and official’s titles.At syntactical level,the treatments of conjunction words and non-subject,and sentences between two languages are discussed.The analysis of textual level focuses on as the analysis and translation of logical relation and semantic cohesion biligually.And this report analyzes translation cases by using translation methods and strategies.At lexical level,the methods and strategies of transliteration,transliteration plus annotation,domestication are mainly used.At the syntactical level,the methods and strategies of combination,reorganization and literal translation are applied.At textual level,the methods and strategies of amplification and literal translation are mainly used.The author tries to not only ensure the meaning of the source text,but also make the target text more acceptable,and achieves the same reading feeling between source language readers and target language readers.In this translation practice,the author contends that during the translation,it is necessary to consider reader’s response,and it confirms to the content of translation theory.Finally,the author hopes that the methods and strategies used in this translation practice can provide some reference for the translation of such texts with Chinese characteristics.
